Chennai Super Kings beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in the IPL 2021 final to win their fourth title. KKR were off to a great start in their high pressure chase as openers Venkatesh Iyer (50) and Shubman Gill (51) put on 91 for the first wicket but Shardul Thakur picked up two wickets in an over to bring CSK back in the match. From then on it was one way traffic as all KKR batters perished one after another in their pursuit of the big target of 193 runs. Thakur finished with 3 wickets while Ravindra Jadeja and Josh Hazlewood finished with two apiece. Earlier, Chennai posted 192 for three in 20 overs with Faf du Plessis smashing 86 off 59 balls.
Moeen Ali played a fine cameo, remaining unbeaten on 37 off 20 balls as KKR bowlers were hit to all parts of the park. Sunil Narine was the standout among KKR bowlers, taking two wickets for 26 runs off his four overs. Du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad had shared a 61-run opening partnership to give CSK a solid start. Faf du Plessis went on to slam a 35-ball half-century to put CSK on top while his partner Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 32 off 27 balls before being dismissed. Robin Uthappa walked into the middle and hit some big shots to keep the run-rate up. He was dismissed for 31 off 15 balls by Sunil Narine. KKR captain Eoin Morgan had opted to bowl after winning the toss
Ravindra Jadeja was in brilliant form for CSK, taking two wickets in four overs. After game, he said, “Feeling amazing, we’ve been working hard for this title. I thought the Venky Iyer catch went so high, I looked at Moeen and he was looking at me, so I knew I had go for it. That catch changed it for us. Mr DJ Bravo is going to entertain us all night. It’s time for him to change his name from ‘Champion’ to ‘Sir Champion’.” CSK team entertained us all over the years. I had seen the whole match and personally thought that there should have been changes in KKR’s squad for final.
Dhoni on CSK vs KKR :– Before I start talking about CSK, need to talk about KKR. Difficult to come back and do what they have, if any team deserved to win the IPL, it’s KKR. Huge credit to the coaches, team and support staff. The break really helped them. Coming to CSK, we shuffled players. We had match winners coming game after game and doing really well.
Every final is special, if you look at stats, we may say we’re the most consistent team to lose the final too. I would love to thank the fans, wherever we’ve played, even when we were in South Africa, we’ve always had a good number of CSK fans. That is what you crave for. Thanks to all of them, it feels like we’re playing in Chennai. Hopefully we’ll be back in Chennai for the fans. It was a great thriller as in the first half of the game, KKR was ahead but CSK bounced back perfectly.
With the Mega Auctions coming up in the next year, we would be witnessing two new teams, One would be of Gujarat franchise as Ahmedabad Lions and another I think would be of Ranchi. What a Tournament this has been, filled with highs and lows, as well as a large degree of uncertainty, but at the end of a journey that lasted over half a year, Chennai Super Kings have won the title! However, that’s not the end of cricketing action, not by a long shot!
We’re already building up to the T20 World Cup, a massive tournament that is now just days away, so do make sure to tune back in, because we’ll be right here, bringing you all the latest updates, I would be supporting my Indian team and hoping that they would win their second title this Year.
