DSG Vs JSK: SA20 League🏏

A new chapter in South African cricket will be written when the SA20 League begins in South Africa from January 10 to the February 11, 2023. The league is a step forward for South African cricket, which had a dismal ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and will be looking to put the tournament behind them. The SA20 League will provide a platform for budding South African cricketers while also featuring international players from top sides around the world.

Each of the six SA20 franchises – MI Cape Town (MICT), Paarl Royals (PR), Pretoria Capitals (PC), Joburg Super Kings (JSK), Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) and Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) will be playing five home and five away matches followed by the knock-out stages, i.e the semi-finals and the finals.

Joburg Super Kings pulled off a thrilling 16-run win over Durban Super Giants in the second match of the SA20 2023 at Kingsmead, Durban, on January 11. The exciting prospect Donavon Ferreira made a big impact with an unbeaten 82 off 40 help the Super Kings score a big total of 190/6. In the chase, the Super Giants started well, with captain Quinton de Kock smashing 78 runs off 52 balls but were restricted to just 174/5. Faf du Plessis won the toss for the Super Kings and elected to bat first, but his decision backfired as the team lost openers Janneman Malan and Reeza Hendricks early.

The star spinner Keshav Maharaj caught and bowled Reeza while Dwaine Pretorius dismissed Malan with just eight runs on the scoreboard. Spinner Prenelan Subrayen then took two big wickets, dismissing Kyle Verreynee and Lewis Gregory in the sixth over to leave the Super Giants struggling at 27/4. But du Plessis (39 off 33) and Donovan pulled off a crucial 72-run partnership for the fifth wicket to get their team back in the game.

Ferreira dominated the last six overs while and Romario Shephered also smahed 40 off 19 to help the Super Kings to 190/6 in 20 overs. Subrayen took two wickets while Maharaj proved economically best bowler for the Super Giants with figures of 1/23. Durban started their innings with openers de Kock and Kyle Mayers putting a brilliant 98-run partnership in just 11 overs.

However, Aaron Phangiso gave the Super Kings the opening they needed with Mayers’ wicket. Ferreira then dismissed the dangerous de Kock in the 14th over to change the momentum of the game. Mayers scored 39 off 30 while de Kock smashed 78 off 52. The Super Giants struggled for the big shots in the death overs and were restricted to 174/5, with Alzarri Joseph taking big wickets of Heinrich Klaassen and Dwaine Pretorius in last three overs. Ferreira won the Player of the Match award for his heroics with bat and an impressive 1/28 spell with a ball for Joburg Super Kings in SA20.

As a Cricket fan, I would say that SA20 is like a Mini IPL. The six franchises have been purchased by Indian franchises and the league is getting massive response from the media. Durban Super Giants had a good opening stand between De kock and Mayers. Both the batters had luck factor with them as they survived many chances of getting out by Joburg Super Kings bowlers.

Who is Donavon Ferreira?

Donavon Ferreira is a right-handed batting all-rounder from South Africa who competes for the Titans in domestic cricket. He has not yet made his national team debut. However, the wicketkeeper-batter has been in excellent form in recent domestic season games. Ferreira played for the Easterns on the domestic circuit before joining the Titans. Additionally, he participated for the Northern Under-15s team. He was a member of the Tshwane Spartans in the Mzansi Super League. He was acquired by Joburg Super Kings for Rand 5.5 million (about US $310,000) for the SA20 league in 2023.

Donavon Ferreira IPL 2023 contract 

Donavon Ferreira registered himself for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 auction for a base price of INR 20 lakhs. Donavon Ferreira was the subject of an offer from Rajasthan Royals, and based on the South African T20 league star’s performance, it appears Sanju Samson’s team has acquired yet another lethal player. Ferreira might be a stronger backup wicket-keeper for Buttler than Root. In the event that the West Indian suffers with his fitness, he might even step in for Hetmyer.
