Rohit Sharma’s Team India got knocked out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 on Thursday (November 10) after a massive 10-wicket loss to Jos Buttler’s England in the semi-finals at the Adelaide Oval. India managed to make 168/6 at the end of 20 overs but England chased down the target in just 16 overs with all wickets in hand courtesy fiery knocks from Buttler and Alex Hales. Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar made a big statement after India’s ouster from the World Cup, saying that Men in Blue were outclassed and outplayed in the semi-finals by England.
He said that India failed to create any pressure on England. Earlier, the fifties from Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya helped India recover from a wobbly start and post 168/5. Put in to bat, India had a slow start and lost opener KL Rahul (5) early but Kohli held the innings together to slam his fourth fifty of the tournament. But it was Pandyaâs blazing knock that propelled Indiaâs total. IND VS ENG Matches have always been entertaining, enthusiastic and emotional for the fans as well as the Cricketers.
Rohit Sharma on IND VS ENG:-“Very disappointing. We still batted well at the back end. Not good enough with the ball, definitely not a wicket where a team could chase in 17 overs. We just did not turn up with the ball. You cannot go and teach people how to handle pressure. Lot of these guys play under pressure in IPL and some of them are able to handle that. When it comes to knockouts, it is about keeping calm
We were a bit nervy the way we started with the ball. We wanted Bhuvi to keep it tight, on the stumps, we knew where runs are scored in Adelaide, square of the wicket, we spoke about that, but that did not happen.”
we should be able to take our team’s losses too’: Sachin Tendulkar
After the heart wrenching loss to England in the T20 World Cup semi final match, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, famed to be known as the god of cricket wrote on Twitter, “A coin has two sides, so does life. If we celebrate our teamâs success like our own then we should be able to take our team’s losses tooâĶ In life, they both go hand in hand. #INDvsENG”
“England played well and it’s the reality, they brought the run rate down, they controlled that game. They didn’t need to take any risk, not that they didn’t as they played some really good shots too. It’s disappointing for sure. Debacle is not the right word for it, disappointing certainly is. Itâs not the losing that hurts, but the manner of losingâĶ The shifting winds of sport can be cruelâĶ Well, weâll look at it as just another opportunity to RiseâĶ
In the second innings, the Indian bowlers failed to apply pressure on the English batters as the opening pair of skipper Jos Buttler and Alex Hales took the game away from India with its amazing power-hitting. They scored the bulk of runs in the first six overs and once the duo was well set in the middle, things got difficult for India.
Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya being Indiaâs saviours with the bat:
After being asked to bat first, India lost KL Rahul early and Rohit Sharma scored a painstaking 27 runs off 28 balls.  Virat Kohli held on tightly at the other end as the English bowlers bowled well. Virat and Hardik added 61-run stand for the fourth wicket after in-form Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed cheaply. Kohli scored 50 runs off 40 balls and once he was dismissed, Hardik took on the anchorâs role and registered a half-century off just 29 balls. His 33-ball 63 powered India to a competitive total of 168/6.
Winning Skipper Jos Buttler said :-
I think the character we have shown since then (England’s loss against Ireland) – it has been amazing. We came here very excited, there was a very good feeling. Everyone from 1 to 11 – stood up today. We always want to start fast and aggressive. Rashid was batting at 11, that’s incredible to know that we have such depth.Hales used the dimensions well and he has shown his form. He was brilliant today in IND VS ENG Semi-final clash. It’s important to enjoy this, it was a brilliant performance from us.
I think we need to give special credit to Jordan, to bowl three overs at the death coming into the semi-final, it was a tough job. He handled the pressure towards the end pretty well, especially bowling against a world class player like Hardik Pandya in the IND VS ENG Encounter.
Looking at the previous tournaments since the 2013 Champions Trophy win under MS Dhoniâs leadership, Indiaâs performance has not been the best. In the 2014 T20 World Cup final against Sri Lanka at the Sher-E-Bangla Stadium, India suffered a six-wicket defeat despite cruising throughout the campaign. IND VS ENG: match was watched by nearly 2 crores people in the Hot Star, becoming one of the most watched match in the T20 World Cup 2022.
In the next year at the ODI World Cup 2015 in Australia, India could not get past the hosts in the semi-finals as they crashed out of the tournament. The 2016 T20 World Cup in India turned out to be a different story as Virat Kohliâs blinder of a knock took the side to 192 in the summit clash, but it was not enough against a star-studded West Indies side who went onto become the champions. We all were waiting for the India-Pakistan Blockbuster Clash!!!
I am feely distressed because of India’s loss in IND VS ENG Match. There are many rasons for India’s loss :- Like the opening partnership not giving their best in the most crucial Knock-outs, Team very much dependent on Virat, Surya and Hardik Pandya. Bowlers not giving their best and leaking runs from the beginnings. I think there should be some bowling changes as the same team went for 66 runs against Bangladesh in 7 overs. IND VS ENG
IND VS ENG:- English batters played exceptionally against India, it was the highest run-chase in the history of the T20 World Cup 2022 surpassing the previous best 152-0 of Pakistan against India.
