India vs Pakistan, Asia Cup 2022 Super 4 Highlights: Pakistan managed to pull off an extraordinary chase to get back at India in the second of a possible three matches between the two traditional rivals in the 2022 Asia Cup. Virat Kohli’s 60 off 44 balls and two misfields in the end from Fakhar Zaman took India to 181/7. Pakistan were firmly on the backfoot for much of the first half of their chase, with India dismissing captain Babar Azam and Fakhar before they could do too much damage.
Virat Kohli dropped anchor to play a brilliant, measured knock of 60 runs off 44 balls. The likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya however failed to sparkle as India managed only 88 in the next ten for a total of 181/7. Shadab Khan got a couple for 31, while the other four got one each. Pakistan bowled beautifully despite the mis-happening in the last two balls of the India innings. Fakhar Zaman couldn’t save the four and dropped the catch in the last ball against India. It has been a Epic Rollercoaster for all the Cricket fans😎.
However, Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Rizwan changed the course of the game with a 73-run partnership in just 41 balls. Asif Ali then almost took Pakistan home after Arshdeep Singh dropped a dolly off him. However, Arshdeep dismissed him with just two balls to spare and with Pakistan still need two runs to win. Pakistan then ran hard and took two runs off the next ball to win the match by five wickets. The form is brilliant (talking about Kohli). Needed someone to bat long when the others were getting out.
He batted with that tempo as well. Virat getting that score was crucial from the team’s point of view. Wickets of Hardik and Rishabh was not needed at that time. But we want to play with an open mindset. While taking that approach you’ll not always have success. India could have scored 10-15 runs more, the start they had was pretty good. The team couldn’t capitalize on that and lost quick wickets. Virat Kohli stood firmly and scored 60 runs off 44 deliveries.
“It’s a high pressure game and you have to be at it every time. A game like that can take a lot out of you, but we were quite calm at the backend, even in the middle when Rizwan and Nawaz had a partnership going. But it went too long and they batted brilliantly. “Games like this can bring the best out of players. There will be times when they will be challenged and things might not go their way. There’s potential in the players and they’ve done it in the past.
There’s class in the opposition team as well.” The thriller ends in Pakistan’s favor. Arshdeep misses his Yorker, Iftikhar Ahmed hits it down the ground and the two batters run for their lives. They make it to the crease as Arshdeep knocks off the bails at the non-striker’s end in frustration, sparking wild celebrations in the Pakistan dressing room and in the stands. What an extraordinary run chase this was.
1-1, we are level. Pakistan has reciprocated with a thrilling five-wicket win. One would point to Arshdeep’s drop in a key moment as the game-changer. Well, India could have added another 10-15 with the bat. Bhuvneshwar and Hardik too failed to fire with the ball and India’s ‘aggressive’ approach with the bat may still have a few chinks to be sliced off. Not easy to find balance in the absence of a key all-rounder straightaway for a high-intensity game.
Mohammad Nawaz grabs the spotlight
The Pakistan batters were on fire from the word go as they took a toll on Indian bowlers, and Hardik Pandya and Yuzvendra Chahal were the picks of the day. Pandya, who won the game for India when the two teams clashed last week, went on to concede 44 runs in his four-over spell. On the other hand, Chahal gave away 43 runs as the two managed to pick just one wicket.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the veteran also conceded 40 runs while picking just a wicket. As the Indian bowlers made the mistakes, Pakistan batters seized every opportunity. Starting with Mohammad Rizwan who scored a brilliant 71(51) and added a chunk of runs during the chase, the middle-order batters were the highlight for Pakistan’s innings.
Mohammad Nawaz was promoted up the order and he stood up to the expectations, smashing 42 runs off just 20 deliveries. His knock added pressure on India and changed the course of the game. After Rizwan and Nawaz’s wickets, it looked like India had the game in their bag but a huge blunder by Arshdeep Singh cost India the game. Arshdeep dropped Asif Ali in the 18th over off Ravi Bishnoi’s delivery and the game turned thereon.
We had mentioned around the 12th over mark that getting back in this game would take an extraordinary effort from the Pakistanis. They have only done that and more. Mohammad Rizwan the protagonist of the chase, Mohammad Nawaz was the side kick and Asif Ali played an all-important cameo. Pakistan have won this game with just one ball to spare.
